Knocking of nails on wood, the sound of a trowel against a bucket of cement is scooped to put on bricks, the buzz of an impact wrench on tires to get rotated – just some of the sounds that echoed throughout the Sungod Recreation Centre in Delta, for their Annual Trades and Technical Career Fair.
Over 60 exhibitors including post-secondary institutions, companies and organizations were on the floor showcasing the diversity in trade and technical careers, as well as a handful of businesses were hiring and conducting interviews on site during their Job Fair.
Automotive was popular and very much in the spotlight! Students were able to play interactive 3D games, get hands on with tires, take a wrench to a motorbike, or try their hands at a mechanic simulator.
Our post-secondary partners provided students with information about the various programs to start their careers in this industry. BCIT”s Auto Collision Division provided kids with 3D renderings of engine parts, and did on-site scans and renderings to show the newest educational technology. Their Motorcycle and Power program let youth experience tuning a motorbike hands-on. The Automotive Training Centre promoted their ten-month program with their money back guarantee! Upon graduation, if you do not find a job in 6 months, you will receive 1005 your money back – if that is not an indicator of how in-demand this industry it, then what is?
