When you think extreme in the automotive industry – Ken Block, Gyhmkana, the Road to Dakar or Formula One seem to come to mind. However, this past week, ‘extreme’ was the Black Press Career Fair at the Langley Events Centre. Over 90 ready to hire employers were on site meeting job seekers, interviewing onsite and helping people find work.
BC Auto Careers was onsite to promote all the job opportunities within B.C’s Automotive Sector. So what’s so extreme about working in this sector – there are a few things:
- It is very in-demand – over 45% of our workforce is retiring in the next five years. With over 30,000 jobs opening the next 10 years, the industry requires workers to fill the jobs due to attrition, as well as fill jobs due to growth.
- Flat Rate – Our industry is unique, as we offer a flat rate for trade specific jobs. Don’t know what flat rate is? If I offer you 8 hours of work, and you complete it in 4, you get paid for the full 8. Most trades people in this industry can make 2 or even 3 times the amount of money.
- It is Community Based – Struggling to look for work close to home with your friends or family? The automotive industry is community-based, year round, non-seasonal employment.
